In celebration of heavy metal detox

My naturopath Heidi was telling me the other day that fresh coriander is a really potent heavy metals detoxifyer particulary when mixed with spiralina or chlorella. I have been having mango banana kale smoothies the last few days with coriander and spirilina but this morning I felt like something more celebratory for breakfast.
--
pear pistachio agar jelly
-
1 red Bosc pear (mornington peninsula)
a handful of pistachios (Victorian)
1 and 1/2 cups of water
blended together until milky
then separately in a pot I prepared 1 cup of water with 1 spoon of agar agar flakes (japan) to the packet directions
mixed with my pear milk, poured into a tart pan and set in fridge for a few hours
--
coriander banana sorbet
-
handful of coriander from my garden
1 frozen banana (Qld)
1 kiwi fruit (NZ)
a spoon of coconut oil (Mexico)
blended into a creamy sorbet
-
remove half icecream and add a spoon of spirilina to the blender and mix
-
to assemble
Agar tart - green icecream - pretty coriander and kiwi flecked icecream - a few slices of fresh kiwi fruit - coriander flowers

Smelling!

Adelaide: chay, i have been following your blog with much interest and was really caught by the idea of smelling my food, actually sticking my nose in the bowl and really smelling and the otherday i smelt a banana and it was one of the most amazing olfactory experiences ive ever had!

Chay-Ya: smelling is super good huh? apparently by smelling and tasting and looking at your food, the rest of the digestive system starts firing and sending out the right kind of enzymes to break down and assimilate whatever food it is... so clever
Adelaide:  i know! the drool factor, what a brilliant bodily function.

Berry razzle recipe

this mornings berry razil smoothie
--
400ml Hepburn Springs sparkling mineral water
a handful of organic brazil nuts from FoE, blended together into milk
a banana
moondara organic blueberries
a tsp organic dedicated coconut
it's possible I put a tsp of loving earth coconut oil in it, and then I think that was all the ingredients.
It was really delicious and made an incredible sound with the (b)razil of the sparkling waters.

Blueberry brazil banana hemp pudding

This was based on the recipe/concept of recovery pudding by Brendan Brazier. It was pretty different from his recipe and I can't quite remember what I put in it, but something like...
--
organic brazil nuts
1/2 cup of water
2 bananas
1/2 frozen organic moondara blueberries from the farmers market
1 tbs hempseed protein
2 mejool dates
tiny lemon juice

Daikon green smoothie

these beautiful daikons were grown in the Ceres market garden. I love it when you buy vegetables and the greens are still attached.
I made up a big batch of green smoothie this morning and filled a few glass bottles for the rest of the day.

--
3/4 bunch daikon raddish greens (greens from 2 raddishs)
2 large stalks of celery
3 small pink lady apples
1 orange (peel removed)
juice of 1/2 a lime and 1/2 a lemon
5 cups of water
1 banana as an after thought to bring it together.

This was quite a thin smoothie, with more water than thickness, and a lot more fruit than I would normally have. I have noticed if you don't drink it right away the bitter flavour seems to intensify a little over the day and so adding more fruit helps this.

As delicious as possible

As I arrived home after Kim's BodyMind Centering class, i suddenly felt inspired to make a smoothie that was as delicious as possible. Something light and creamy, like a straight up banana smoothie with walnut milk and honey.

--
6 or so freshly shelled walnuts (New South Wales)
1 tsp coconut butter (Mexico)
2 tsp raw honey (Tasmania)
Some salt (Himalaya's)
1 tsp maca powder (Peru)
1 cup of water from the tap and filtered (local?)

--
after blending for a few minutes, to ensure your milk is beautifully creamy,
add 1 and 1/2 frozen organic bananas (Vic markets- Queensland?) and keep blending until they have joined the smooth party.

This was phenomenal, a pure joy to drink. Had a deliciously yogurty
cream feel. Thankyou to all the special ingredients that ventured into
my home from where they came.

Nasturtium Icecream

Inspired by the incredibly strong and fragrant smell of the early spring nasturtiums in our lunch, I had the sudden impulse to make a quick 'icecream'. Anni and I took our little tea cups full of cold creamy desert with us down the street and ate it on the bus.
--
2 and 1/2 organic frozen bananas
one small tub of mungalli creek biodynamic rainforest honey yoghurt
1 tsp loving earth brazil nut butter
blended together
put in tiny teacups
and topped with freshly crushed brazil nuts and nasturtiums

Really not hungry smoothie

Last night and this morning I made two very similar smoothies. They
were light, easy to drink and nutritious.
--
4-5 leaves of sorrel
Big handful of chickweed
1 banana
3-4 tbs of organic coconut cream (not raw)
1 cup of water
--
Milk thistles, nettles and broccoli leaves
1 banana
3-4 tbs coconut cream
1 cup of water

-
Yesterday i ate mostly parsley and raw carrots and wasnt particulary
hungry. I think my body is facilitating a subconscious detox. I found
put yesterday that parsley stems have a similiar affect to chewing
gum. They are really fiborous and a mission to chew through, but
stimulate saliva and digestive enzymes and give your jaw the workout
it misses through having too many smoothies.

* I am typing this post on my phone while riding on the bus, a man
just got on with a trolley and big sack full of freshly harvested
nettles. He must have picked them from down by the Merri Creek
somewhere, I wonder what he is going to make with that many nettles?
Perhaps I should have a nettle party soon, my patch is getting a little
out of control.

Super great textured icecream

Sometimes you enter your kitchen with a desire in mind, to make a pie for instance. You are little unsure about the exact flavour and composition of this, pie, you are also not sure if you have all the ingredients required though you are not following an exact recipe. You launch yourself into this venture, and in the beginning you have a vision that you are making a pie crust and a pie filling to achieve this pie desire. As you progress along this pie making process it becomes evident that these two parts really need each other but not in the way that you expected. The crust and filling wish to be truly entwined, and suddenly, unexpectingly you have icecream with the most incredible texture.

--
1 tbs coconut oil melted
1 tbs raw honey
2 tbs black tahini
Some amount of hempseed protein, I used about a cup
The other half of the flesh from the fresh Thai coconut
(previously seen in milk thistle smoothie)
2 frozen bananas

Milk thistle coconut smoothie

I haven't been overly into the Thai drinking coconut craze, mostly because of the very high food miles and very low price (indicating non fair trade). I know they are delicious and so so very good for you, but so are lots of things, and this isn't the tropics. But sometimes you do these things, and you buy a coconut from the supermarket for $1.78 and you celebrate and rejoice and really enjoy the choice you've made.
--
Lots of freshly harvested milk thistles
Fresh coconut water and half of the flesh
A banana
And then add more greens - young cos lettuce, parsley and spicy rocket
until flavour is balanced.

To my good fortune Lex turned up and happily drank half of this smoothie, the celebration of mystical far away things is better when sharing
